1) Keep Water Out

Aluminum oxidation is considered a small issue, a thin oxide layer shields the metal from further oxidation. Although the white powdery stuff can cause damage to the insides of your regulator, the tank itself can rarely get harmed and always be clean.

  • Dry the valve’s stem using a towel, then open the valve for a while before you attach the fill whip. A quick air burst clears any water.
  • Dry the whip. A skilled fill operator briefly purges air from both the tank and whip before putting them together.
  • Avoid dangerous tank overfilling. The common fill-station water tub isn’t as useful as it seems.That’s the reason why the water tub is considered a prime source of moisture that is getting inside the air tanks. The water barely cools the fill and offers minimal protection in a rare tank explosion. It will be a better option to reduce the possibility of explosions via dry-filling.

Never empty the tank completely, and if you do this, ensure to close its valve immediately. An open, empty tank pulls in damp air as temperatures change.

2) Have Your Tank Routinely Inspected

Annual visual checks prevent corrosion, cracks, and early tank failure. A good visual will help you determine minor corrosion and correct it before the matter worse.

A thorough inspector examines the tank for rust, dents, cuts, and bulges. He’ll check the inside of the tank using a bright light for contamination or corrosion . He’ll check the threads with the help of the mirror of the dentist for cracking and galling. He’ll also check the valve, the burst disc in addition to the O-rings.
