Whether you’re a seasoned diver or a novice one, you can find fabulous shore diving destinations in Oahu that provide easy access to some of the most breathtaking aquatic landscapes. Here are 3 of them:

Hanauma Bay

Hanauma Bay is the home of the most famous nature preserve in Oahu. As a result of being closed to boat traffic, Hanauma Bay is considered an excellent dive site for beginning divers. And there is also plenty to draw experienced scuba divers.

Here, you can enjoy the excellent visibility that enables you to view the many schools of reef residents, such as spotted eagle rays, parrotfish, convict tangs, and moray eels.

Hanauma is also considered a home to the endangered Hawaiian green sea turtle. You can enjoy snorkeling in the shallower areas of the reef while trying to reach the deeper sections, which is about 30 feet in depth.

Sharks Cove

Its name may fool you, but Sharks Cove has its name from the shape of the cove not for its residents. It is considered a relatively shark-free area that features large schools of tangs and mullet, in addition to many arches and open-ended lava tubes. It is considered the best site for more seasoned divers who look for a unique experience.

Depths in this area range from 15 to 60 feet. The site has a series of caverns at 30 feet deep. There is also a site called the Elevator which is a 10-foot diameter hole descending to 20 feet before branching into three tubes with different lengths. One of these tubes leads to an interior chamber large enough to contain three divers inside.

Lanai Lookout

Practicing shore diving doesn’t mean you can’t reach more serious depths. The lanai lookout extends to 107 feet in depth. It’s a bit of a trek to reach the site, and is recommended only for advanced scuba divers, but It can be quite thrilling.

After the elevated ledge, You’ll take a plunge of about five feet to the surface of the water, which is nearly 35 to 40 feet in depth at the start. In this area, you can spot magnificent aquatic creatures, such as Whitetip reef sharks, green sea turtles, octopus, and spotted eagle rays.
