Just 30 minutes is enough to prepare an emergency kit that can help protect you and your family when it matters most. A little preparation today can make all the difference tomorrow. Let’s dive in together to know how

Build Your Emergency Kit in 30 Minutes

Choose a durable container, then collect the following:

  • Three days of shelf-stable food supplies: for example: peanut butter, canned meat or jerky,  soup, snack bars, and eating utensils if needed. Remember to include food for any pets in your house.
  • 12 liters of bottled water for each person: the needed amount of water for drinking is about two liters/half a gallon per day, in addition to some for cleaning and handwashing.
  • Personal care items:including baby wipes, diapers, toilet paper, and products for feminine hygiene.
  • A headlamp or torch besides fresh batteries: a torch is a good too to start with, but in emergencies in which you need both hands free, a headlamp is the perfect choice. Avoid storing batteries inside the device, but open the packages so they’re easy to access.
  • Clean clothes and sturdy shoes: when a disaster happen, Families often have to leave their homes quickly and may be away for several days. In such a situation, You’ll feel good to have clean clothes and comfortable shoes if you need to walk or stand for long periods. There is no need to buy new items—just set aside gently used athletic shoes and comfortable clothes for everyone in your family.
  • Prescription medication: Store medications in their original containers besides with the dosage instructions.
  • Small bills in cash: If there’s a power outage, you will find a problem in ATMs and card machines to make them work. The amount of cash needed depends on your family size, but plan for enough to cover three simple meals per day for three days.
  • Blankets: a blanket will be beneficial for many things including, comfort, warmth, privacy, and
  • A first aid kit: including scissors, antiseptic wipes, pain medicine, tweezers, anti-nausea/diarrhea medication, adhesive bandages in different sizes, tap, and If you’ve never go on first aid training, or if you had it a few years ago, your local Emergency First Response® Instructor can teach you and your family all the needed essential skills.

If you get all these items on hand, well done! If you have a little extra time, include a deck of cards, a favorite toy, or something else to help pass the time.

Store all these supplies in a cool, dark place, so that you can access them easily if you’re in a hurry. It is recommended to refresh these supplies at least one time every year.
