Coral
When talking about coral, there are multiple categories, based on the kind you’re looking at. You may encounter see brain, mushroom, staghorn, plate, slipper, microtoll, and bommies both when you are below the waterline and above.
The most common types of corals you will encounter while snorkeling are Plate and staghorn corals. They can be spotted easily, even by beginner snorkelers.
Staghorn corals include the branches of coral which usually resemples a bundle of tree branches. On the other hand, plate corals seem like plates, and they are usually stacked together.
Molluscs
Molluscs are a group of animals that include clams, mussels, slugs, snails, and octopi. You may encounter a few species from this group such as giant clams which have fleshy, colorful lips, cone shells that can lead to death if touched or handled, and sea slugs that resemble kaleidoscopes of color in the formation of a slug.
Echinoderms
Echinoderms group includes sea cucumbers, and sea stars among other animals. You can spot cucumbers very easily, because they are spherical and long, resembling a real cucumber.
They move slowly and are dark black or brown in colour, which makes them spotted easily. You can often see sea stars too which usually have five arms, some have more or fewer depending on their life experiences!
Fish
You can see fish, too, which can vary greatly in temperament, color, and size. You can enjoy some coming happily to greet you and hang out nearby, or they may swim away and get inside any shelter to hide.
You’ll spot dull, bright, slow, fast, tiny, and large fish! Every species changes and adapts in their own way to be able to live their best life and survive in this challenging environment.
