Most Beautiful Reefs for Deep Diving in Hurghada

Umm Gamar

Um Gamar is a small island located on the north of the coast of Hurghada. Dive boats anchor above the plateau, which begins on the southern side of the island. If you are going to practice deep diving in Hurghada, you should swim along with the wall while facing your left hand to the east.

Along the way, Scuba divers swim past coral formations covered with soft and hard corals. You will find three coral towers located on the deep side of the reef. The first coral tower features a crack that is regarded as a home to huge numbers of lionfish, glassfish, and young groupers.

Under the second tower, reaching 28 meters deep, you will find a small cave into which you can swim. Scuba divers exhale the air inside escapes through cracks in the tower wall, providing a picturesque sight with some bubbles coming out of the tower.  You can also jump onto the drift from the deeper side and return to the plateau in which the dive boats are moored.

Shaabruhr Umm Gamar

Shaabruhr Umm Gamar is a dive site located near Umm Gamar Island which consists of a long reef. There is a plateau located on its western side, which in the east gradually descends to 30 meters deep and then ends with a wall falling to great depths.

On a 30 meter-deep dive, you have an opportunity to spot the remains of the wreck, which ends just before dropping-off. It is one of the magnificent sites in Hurghada for deep technical diving. As a technical diver on a drift dive here, you can visit the Colona wreck at a depth of 60-67 meters.

Carless Reef

The Carless Reef is also considered a coral reef that is located in the north of Hurghada. The possible dive you can conduct here is when there is no wind. The reef here isn’t large and the top is around 3 meters below the surface, so there is no protection from sea currents and waves.

Two large coral pinnacles rise from a broad flat area at a depth of around 14 meters. The transition of the plateau is to a drop-off in the north. Along the deep wall, divers can observe smaller coral towers. Strong currents at this dive site should be expected.

Carless Reef in Hurghada

Small Giftun (Police Station)

When you plan a deep dive on this reef in Hurghada, it is worth doing a drift dive and following the current back to the plateau in which the boats are moored. After you jump on the drift, scuba divers swim along a wall that descends to a very deep depth.

Large gorgonians grow on the wall at 20 to 50 meters deep. There is a plateau in the next part of the reef which is around 18 meters deep which is in a drop-off, and scuba divers can swim where the plateau breaks deep or shallow along the wall that is found on their right hand while diving, relying on the current strength.

Erg Somaya

There is only one place to anchor the boat which is below it (it is a fairly narrow, deep plateau that ends in a drop-off). Scuba Diving here can be challenging – expect strong currents that get stronger while moving away from the wall of the reef wall.

At Erg Somaya, scuba divers can enjoy a beautiful deep drift dive and, along the way at around 30 meters, explore a small tunnel in a coral block covered with colorful soft corals.

Abu Ramada

Abu Ramada is an island near Hurghada, around which there are many diving sites suitable for practicing deep diving in Hurghada. At this location, we can dive deep into Cave Abu Ramada and South Abu Ramada and possibly Erg Abu Ramada.

If weather conditions aren’t helpful to anchor at Erg Abu Ramada or there are strong currents, scuba divers can drift dive from Erg Abu Ramada to Cave Abu Ramada or conduct a pick-up drift from Shaab Ayman to Erg Abu Ramada. Conducting a pick-up drift can also be possible on the deep wall having very strong currents in the North of Abu Ramada.

El Fanadir (North)

El Fanadir is one of the simple places in which you can practice deep diving in Hurghada. Boats moor above the plateau, which slopes from 12 to 18 meters before dropping into a deep wall.

It is a rare thing to have encounters with strong currents here, which makes this site a perfect location for scuba divers completing the AOWD course – and deep diving as part of their training.

Wreck of El Mina

Wreck of El Mina is located right next to Hurghada’s New Marina. The maximum depth here is about 30 meters. Scuba divers having an AOWD can conduct a deep dive here or as part of the AOWD course – wreck diving after a previous deep dive.

Other scuba dive sites in Hurghada also offer deep diving chances. However, Consider whether your air supply is sufficient to reach the deeper part of the reef and return safely to the boat.

Moreover, deep diving here is magnificent as there is something interesting to see, and not just about registering a greater depth by the dive computer.
